School will have a lot of fun activities that will require the use of fine motor skills. Parents may wish to practice some of these skills with their child.
Some children may not have had an opportunity to learn these skills and parents may find they will develop quite quickly when they enter school. If a parent is concerned about their child's fine motor skills (ability to use their small muscles) FAIR START can make a referral to an Occupational Therapist for a fine motor assessment.
Fine Motor Skills (Small Muscles) May Include:
- Stacking blocks
- Working with puzzles
- Holding a pencil
- Using child-safe scissors
- Turning pages in a book
